Richard Louis Proenneke (/ ˈ p r ɛ n ə k iː /; May 4, 1916 – April 20, 2003) was an American self-educated naturalist, conservationist, writer, and wildlife photographer who, from the age of about 51, lived alone for nearly thirty years (1968–1998) in the mountains of Alaska in a log cabin that he constructed by hand near the shore of Twin Lakes.
In 2009, Wardle filmed a documentary, Alone in the Wild, for Channel 4 and the National Geographic Channel. [7] Wardle was dropped off in the Yukon Territory of Northern Canada in order to make a documentary presenting what it would be like to live completely alone in the wilderness, living off the land and the wildlife he could legally catch.
Alone in the Wild is a 2009 documentary television series commissioned by Channel 4 and produced by Tigress Productions, a UK independent producer. It was co-produced with the National Geographic Channel. Ed Wardle, an accomplished extreme photographer, created and filmed the series.
