Amita Dhanda is an Indian academician and activist. Earlier a Professor of Law, she is now designated as Professor Emerita at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.She was appointed as a member of the strong 14- Member National Advisory Council for the implementation of the RTE act in 2010.
In July 1999, she joined the NALSAR University of Law at Hyderabad as a founding faculty member. [citation needed] As a professor of sociology, Kannabiran taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in sociology, labour law and criminal law; and was a part of the team that introduced and taught the Masters Programme (LLM) in Human Rights.
Before taking charge as VC of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) Hyderabad, he was the founding Vice-Chancellor of National Law University Odisha (NLUO), located at Cuttack, Odisha. He is also a former director of KIIT School of Law. Currently, he is the Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) Patna.

National status of law schools: These Schools are recognized by the university grants commission as "state universities" and are affiliated to the Bar Council of India. Each of these law schools were to be established under a specific legislation , to be passed by the State legislature of the State desirous of establishing a law school.
