The mall opened in 1981 as a project of National Mall developer Jacobs, Visconsi & Jacobs of Cleveland, Ohio. Citadel Mall is located at the intersection of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard (S.C. Highway 7) and Savannah Highway (U.S. Highway 17) at the junction of Interstate 526 in the heavily commercialized West Ashley suburb of Charleston, South Carolina.
Northwoods Mall opened in 1973 [2] and was designed by architects Sidney H. Morris & Associates of Chicago, with Harold Carson Associates as the manager. The original anchor stores upon opening were Montgomery Ward, Carson Pirie Scott (shortened later to Carson's), and JCPenney.
In 2008, NCG built a new 12-screen theater near Acworth, Georgia. In 2012, NCG acquired a ten-screen cinema in Marietta, Georgia, from Regal Entertainment Group.
