The present-day community was originally two separate towns, Bala and Cynwyd, but was united as a singular community largely because the U.S. Post Office, the Bala Cynwyd branch, served both towns using ZIP Code 19004. The combining of the communities gives a total population of 9,285 as of the 2020 census. [1]
Thirty years later, the post office was expanded with an addition to the rear of the building, increasing its size to 20,000 square feet (1,900 m 2). [ 2 ] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the West Chester Downtown Historic District in 1985.
