Ternopil is an important railway hub with connections to most major railway stations of Ukraine. The city lies on the M12 international highway connecting western and central regions of Ukraine. Trolleybus lines and a bus station are active in the city. Water transport operates on Ternopil artificial lake mostly for tourist purposes.

Also, Ternopil pond has two islands: the Island of Love and "The Seagull" (“Chaika”). An old Soviet motor ship, "Yan Amor Tarnovskyi" [2] (former name "The Hero Tantsorov") still operating on the pond. In 1968, the ship appeared in Ternopil named in honor of Gregory Tantsorov - one of the liberators of the city from German occupation.
By the decision of the Executive Committee of the Ternopil Regional Council No. 537 of October 23, 1972, it was declared a nature reserve. It is managed by the local peasant union. The waterfall has scientific, aesthetic, and educational value and is one of the most attractive tourist attractions in Ternopil region.

Ternopil Oblast (originally Tarnopol Oblast) was established based mostly on the Tarnopol Voivodeship and southern portions of the Volhynian Voivodeship. During the invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany, Ternopil became an object of fierce fighting between Soviet and German forces because of its importance as a rail transportation hub.
