St Mary's, city centre – Cardiff's main church from the 12th century until it was destroyed by flooding in the 17th century. St Mary the Virgin, Caerau – 13th century church last used in 1973. Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay – de-consecrated in 1974, subsequently relocated and re-opened as an arts centre.
As such, it is a network of Anglican churches within the Church of England and the Church in Wales that are linked back to HTB. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The network now comprises more than 30 of the approximately 490 churches in the Diocese of London , and 66 churches nationwide across 17 dioceses.
The church fell increasingly into decay in later centuries. By the 1840s, it was all but derelict, with a tiny congregation. Having passed centuries as a little-changed village, Lisvane began to expand in the later 19th century, and after 1861, the church's fortunes began to revive as Lisvane began to develop into an affluent suburb.

The initial church was an iron church finished in 1891, with parts from other churches (including Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral and St Peter's Church). [1] This was rebuilt as St Joseph's Church in Gabalfa when the new St Alban's building was finished. [1] [2]

The first church in this locality was established in 1857 in a converted barn and was known as Splott Chapel and as Christ Church. In 1874 this was replaced by a second-hand building made of iron. The population was growing rapidly and this building soon became inadequate. [2] By 1881 the parish had raised €5000 to build a new church. [3]
