The Little River Turnpike was built between 1801 and 1806, and the road was a privately owned and operated toll road during the 19th century running from Alexandria to Aldie in Loudoun County, Virginia. Toll houses were placed at five mile intervals along the road for collection of fees. The road was a paved ("macadamized") road 20 feet wide.
Hunting Creek is a cove and tributary stream of the Potomac River between the City of Alexandria and Fairfax County in Virginia. It is formed by Cameron Run flowing from the west. The community of Huntington takes its name from the creek. Jones Point forms the north side. Dyke Marsh is just to the south.
The stream's eastern section forms the boundary of Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. The stream eventually empties into the Potomac River immediately south of Reagan National Airport. [3] The name Four Mile Run does not derive from its length. A 2001 documentary film alleged that the name resulted from a misreading of an old map.
