Unexpected Productions (UP) is an improvisational comedy company in Seattle, Washington, USA. From their home at the Market Theater in Seattle's historic Pike Place Market, in Post Alley, [1] Unexpected Productions produces year-round shows, teaches improv classes, and hosts the Seattle International Festival of Improvisation.
As a group, the troupe is best known for creating and starring in the 1993-1995 MTV sketch comedy series The State. However, since the show aired, members of the troupe have frequently collaborated on other television and film projects, including Viva Variety , Reno 911! , and the Wet Hot American Summer media franchise.
Group member Bill Saluga (1937-2023) became known for the rest of his life for his comedy routine as character Raymond J. Johnson Jr., which started as an Ace Trucking Company skit. [ 15 ] [ 16 ] In a 1982 interview, Saluga recollected that the character "really started when I was with the improv-group The Ace Trucking Company.

This group would eventually be followed by Courtney Miller and Shayne Topp later that year, which would complete the group that would be known as the "Smosh Squad." This is a partial list of New York Improv comedians and singers. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s they performed regularly at the Improvisation Comedy Club. The Improv was founded by Budd Friedman and his then wife Silver Saundors Friedman [1] in 1963, and was located at 358 West 44th Street, New York City, in an area known as Hell's Kitchen.
