Houston National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery in Harris County, Texas, near Houston. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It encompasses 419.2 acres (169.6 ha) only about half of which is developed. The cemetery had more than 111,000 interments as of 2021.
More than 100 are in the "Houston Heights" neighborhood whose borders are, approximately, Highway I-10 on the South, I-610 on the North, 45 on the East and Durham on the West. The "inner Harris County" area is defined as the rest of the area within the Interstate 610 loop; "outer Harris County" is defined as the rest of Harris County.

The National Cemetery Administration lists a total of 73 Civil War-Era National Cemeteries from 1861 to 1868. [ 9 ] Final military honors are provided for qualified Veterans by volunteer veteran or National Guard details known as Memorial Honor Details (MHD), upon application by family members through their choice of mortuary handling the deceased.
