Bata Shoes was founded in 1894 by Tomáš Baťa in Zlín (then Austro-Hungarian Empire, today the Czech Republic). The original name was Nyasaland Bullets, but the club managed to source good sponsorship from Bata Shoe Company and was renamed as Bata Bullets. Born in the village of Mphonde in Phalombe District, Nyasaland, Waya joined local club Bata Bullets in 1980. He spent most of his career with Bullets, but had a brief spell in the United Arab Emirates with Al Jazira Club, and finished his career with Silver Strikers.
