The Indonesian music industry in the 1970s was quite advanced, and the pop music genre became very popular, featuring works from musicians like Chrisye, Ade, and Puspa. The Prambors (LCLR) songwriting competition in 1977 broke the stagnation in the pop music industry at that time.
Between the 1970s and 1990s, recorded Indonesian popular music grew to include, like most popular music elsewhere in the world, the use of at least some Western instruments and Western harmony. In the 80's, Indonesian media widely coined the term Pop kreatif. [4] Journalists Seno M. Hardjo and Bens Leo is cited to have popularized this term to differentiate the music presented by musicians with the likes of Guruh Soekarnoputra, Eros Djarot, Chrisye, Fariz RM, and Dian Pramana Poetra from the Melancholic pop music artists and genre.
