I Put a Spell on You is a studio album by American singer, songwriter, arranger and pianist Nina Simone. Recorded in 1964 and 1965 in New York City, it was released by Philips Records in 1965. It peaked at number 99 on the Billboard 200 chart [5] and number 18 on the UK Albums Chart. [6]
The 192-page book was published February 1, 1992 by Pantheon. [2] It was re-released in a 2003 Da Capo Press reprint edition following Simone's death on April 21, 2003; this edition included an introduction, "I Know How it Feels To Be Free: Nina Simone 1933–2003", written by Dave Marsh.
Additionally, Price was critical of Hawkins' original version of the song, calling it "terrible" compared to Nina Simone's version. [42] Derek Johnson believes that "I Put a Spell on You" is one of the "finest rhythm and blues discs ever waxed in this country." [42] Retrospectively, the single has also received praise by critics.
