Colorado Bend State Park is a 5,328.3-acre (2,156 ha) state park located in the Hill Country region of the U.S. state of Texas, mostly in San Saba County. It was purchased by the state in 1984 and opened to the public in 1987. It is representative of the karst features typically seen in the Hill Country, with many sinkholes, caves, and springs.
The community sits in a horseshoe-shaped bend along the Brazos River. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex . According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 1.73 square miles (4.5 km 2 ), of which 1.65 square miles (4.3 km 2 ) is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 km 2 ) is water.
The facility is located near Horseshoe Bay in Llano County, Texas, United States. It is owned and operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and was named for Thomas C. Ferguson, a member of LCRA's first Board of Directors. Cooling water is provided by Lake LBJ, a freshwater reservoir created by Wirtz Dam.
