Walt Disney (1901–1966), animator and founder of The Walt Disney Company, spent four childhood years on a farm near Marceline. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he founded the animation studio Laugh-O-Gram Studio. Main Street, U.S.A. in Disney theme parks worldwide was inspired by his childhood in Marceline. The Coates House Hotel is a former hotel at 1005 Broadway in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, on the National Register of Historic Places.Also known as the New Coates House Hotel, it was built in 1889–1891, incorporating parts of an earlier hotel, which had been built in the late 1860s as the Broadway Hotel and then became the Coates House after a change in ownership.
