Cain confronted Castiel at the site of his victims' graves, but let him go so that Castiel would tell Dean who would bring the First Blade to kill him. Going after Tommy's son, Austin, Cain was lured into a devil's trap by Dean, Sam, Castiel and Crowley, after which Dean confronted him alone.
Castiel, Sam, and Dean find that the officers were involved in the shooting of a young man, whose brother Aaron has the staff, which he got from an angel in exchange for his soul. Castiel deduces that the angel responsible, Balthazar, has split the staff into pieces to be able to buy more souls. Castiel confronts Balthazar in his residence.
