In India, the term is used to distinguish conventional modern medicine from Siddha medicine, Ayurveda, homeopathy, Unani and other alternative and traditional medicine traditions, especially when comparing treatments and drugs. Graduate level was introduced by 1979 followed by Alemaya University in 1984 and numerous public universities ensued. Reforms on higher education were made since the regime of EPRDF in 1994.
