Madison Area Technical College or simply Madison College or MATC is a public technical college based in Madison, Wisconsin. It serves students in parts of 12 counties in south-central Wisconsin: Adams , Columbia , Dane , Dodge , Green , Iowa , Jefferson , Juneau , Marquette , Richland , Rock , and Sauk .

The university became the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg in 1924 and continued under that name until 1938 when it was named Madison College in honor of James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, whose Montpelier estate is located in nearby Orange, Virginia.

Headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, the corporation is non-profit. It was one of the four largest companies which service United States federal student loans: Great Lakes, Nelnet, Navient, and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. [2] In 2018, the loan servicing part of the organization was sold to Nelnet.
Within the college, these units are organized under Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences Divisions. [3] Because most freshmen and sophomores take courses in the College of Letters and Science, it is the only college of the UW–Madison that touches every undergraduate student.
