The other cities have been already listed and you should have a look at them, but imho all the cities are following a certain schema. So there are lots of similarities and in every place (main station, arcade, castle, ...) though there might be a special thing like Hiroshima, Himeji or Nara where the buildings are mesmerizing but the cities ...

Tokyo hands down (I’ve visited Sapporo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, matsuyama, takamatsu and Tokushima, as well as smaller towns throughout the 4 main islands). I love cities (I’m a Londoner born and bred) and Tokyo is A City! It’s so busy and thriving and has lots of people.

  4. [Discussion] What are your top destinations in Japan and why?

Honorable mention : many places in Hakone and Izu (haven't been to one overlooking the sea, but soon !) Number one : Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku. 4 huge mixed-gender natural-looking black rock outdoor baths, along a river, in the forest. Especially in the snow. And it's relatively cheap, with great food.

So far my favorite food locations are Sapporo and Fukuoka. Sapporo for miso ramen, soup curry ramen, ice cream, gengis khan, etc. Fukuoka for hakata ramen, mizutaki and all the yatai. 3. Award. jsakic99. • 10 mo. ago. Yokohama for Chinese food (day trip from Tokyo) 2. Award.

  6. Cities in Japan with best public transport other than Tokyo

    www.reddit.com/r/japan/comments/16uhaa0/cities_in_japan_with_best_public...

Sapporo is the capital of northern Japan, so the best of Japan's icy northern transit will be sitting there. Similarly, Kagoshima & Nagasaki are two major cities in Japan's south, so they're gonna have the best transit of that part as well. Kanagawa is pretty good as well, i'd reckon. Reply reply. 7. What is your favorite off-the-beaten-path city or town in Japan?

Setouchi and the surrounding for the island life, Shodoshima was an absolute delight. Naoshima was, well, Naoshima. And Teshima. The surrounding cities like Takamatau and Okayama were great little gem as well (both have a beautiful garden-park). East coast towns of kii peninsula like Nachi, Katsuura, Ise, Toba. So sleepy and quaint.

  8. Smaller cities in Japan - are they worth the time traveling?

So is Hakone if you like the mountains. Yokohama has a few interesting sights. All mentioned are good day trips from Tokyo. We did Hakone for 3 days between Tokyo and Kyoto - highly recommend! So worth the extra travel to get up in the mountains, and it was a nice break between exploring busy cities.

  9. What is the difference between 市, 都市, 都会 and 市街

    japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/48973

都市 refers to cities in the sense of metropolitan/urban areas as opposed to rural areas. It's also the umbrella term for large municipalities in any country. 都会 is roughly the same as 都市 in the sense of metropolitan areas, but sounds more colloquial and less technical. In conversation you will hear 都会に住みたい more often ...

Japan can't just spam colonies like Portugal, their cities should be connected. Another upside is that the samurai's placement at military tactics puts it along the upper lanes of the tech tree so important for science victories, so a science Japan doesn't need to endure a great detour from the techs it wants to access their UU (unlike science ...
