Hansel and Gretel (alternatively: Cannon Movie Tales: Hansel and Gretel) is a 1987 fantasy musical film, part of the 1980s film series titled Cannon Movie Tales. It is directed by Len Talan and stars David Warner, Cloris Leachman, Hugh Pollard and Nicola Stapleton.
A trio of talking ravens narrate the real story of Hansel and Gretel, who are a prince and a princess. After being beheaded by their father, the siblings run away and search for a new and happy family. The pair embark on a winding and wickedly witty tale with elements of several other stories from the Brothers Grimm.
Gretel notices a bloody fingernail on the floor and finds a trapdoor to an underground dungeon, hearing Hansel calling for her. Having been found out, Lilith has her sons force Gretel to join in on “family dinner”, where she serves the freshly cooked Dana. Gretel stabs John with her knife, causing Lilith to throw her into the dungeon.
