The Open Agriculture Initiative coined the term "Food Computer" to describe their main product. Originally developed under the MIT CityFARM project, [4] the Food Computer was a controlled-environment agriculture platform that used soilless agriculture technologies including hydroponic and aeroponic systems to grow crops indoors.
It was developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) [19] and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) [20] with support from partners including the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) [21] as a framework for countries in developing their national e-agriculture strategy/masterplan.
