Angus Barbieri (1938 or 1939 – 7 September 1990) was a Scottish man who fasted for 382 days, [1] from 14 June 1965 to 30 June 1966. He subsisted on tea, coffee, sparkling water, vitamins and yeast extract while living at home in Tayport , Scotland, frequently visiting Maryfield Hospital for medical evaluation.
In the 1960s a world record was set at the hospital when a patient named Angus Barbieri spent 382 days between June 1965 and July 1966 without taking solid food. Barbieri survived by taking tea, coffee and soda water as well as vitamins.
So the full-on diet did end after 382 days, but then doctors spent several days ramping him up to be able to eat his first meal. They did this for 10 days: July 1st through the 10th. The newspaper was not being unreasonable to describe his diet as lasting 392 days, because Angus didn't have his first solid food until July 11.
