The Mission (known as the Mission UK in the United States) are an English gothic rock band formed in 1986. Initially known as the Sisterhood, the band was started by frontman Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams (both from the Sisters of Mercy), soon adding drummer Mick Brown (Red Lorry Yellow Lorry) and guitarist Simon Hinkler (Artery and Pulp).

Sum and Substance is a compilation album released by the British rock band The Mission on 7 February 1994 through Vertigo/Phonogram Records. [4] It contains all the singles released by the band as well as two new songs. The vinyl version on two LP's had a slightly different track-listing. [5]
The song "Evermore and Again" is a re-recording of "Forevermore" a B-side of the "Beyond the Pale" single. During the subsequent 'Tour '96' Hussey announced that the band was to be dissolved. The album was re-released in 2011 with two bonus tracks "Perfect Sunrise" and "Coming Home (God-like version)".
