Howard Nemerov (February 29, 1920 – July 5, 1991) was an American poet. He was twice Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress, from 1963 to 1964 and again from 1988 to 1990. [1] For The Collected Poems of Howard Nemerov (1977), he won the National Book Award for Poetry, [2] Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, [3] and Bollingen Prize.
Gertrude Russek married David Nemerov, and they were the parents of Diane Arbus and Howard Nemerov. Russek died on December 10, 1948. [ 5 ] He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan where his funeral services were held.

Born Betty Kay Ageloff in New York City, Aberlin grew up in a Jewish family [3] [4] and attended public schools in Queens and Staten Island. In Staten Island, she attended Curtis High School, graduating in 1959. She graduated from Bennington College, having studied art, modern dance, and literature with Howard Nemerov and Bernard Malamud.
