Previously a voluntary aided school administered by North Lincolnshire Council, St Bede's Catholic School was converted to academy status on 1 April 2012 and was renamed St Bede's Catholic Voluntary Academy. The school forms part of the Northern Lincolnshire Catholic Academy Trust [7] which is supported by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nottingham.

Born at Scunthorpe in 1968, Rachel Kenny was one of four siblings. She had three brothers. Her father was a steelworker, her mother a refugee. She attended St Bede's, a local Catholic comprehensive school, then attended the John Leggott College, in the same two years as weather forecaster Darren Bett, gaining A-levels in English and Religious Studies in 1986.
The school has a coeducational sixth form, St Benedict's Sixth Form. All sixth form students are currently based at the old St Bede's site. The old St Joseph's site has been renamed Ignis (Latin: spark) and the old St Bede's site has been renamed Ardor (Latin: flame). At the start of September 2018, a house system was introduced, with 5 houses.
