The Lake Hotel, also known as Lake Yellowstone Hotel is one of a series of hotels built to accommodate visitors to Yellowstone National Park in the late 19th and early 20th century. Built in 1891, it is the oldest operating hotel in the park. It was re-designed and substantially expanded by Robert Reamer, architect of the Old Faithful Inn in 1903.
The Wort Hotel was designed by self-taught architect Lorenzo "Ren" Grimmett of Idaho Falls, Idaho. After observing the success of the Wort, Grimmett subsequently designed a near twin of the Wort, the Stage Coach Inn, in West Yellowstone, Montana, which he owned and operated himself.
Developed by the Rainier National Park Company in 1916–1917, the Paradise Inn is the crown jewel hotel of the National Park. Following the example of Old Faithful Inn the 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story inn was designed to withstand the severe Cascade Winters. The hotel was made of the remains of a heavy forest fire that burnt several miles of Cedar Trees.
The hotel is one of the "Historic Inns of America." The Gallatin Gateway Inn was opened on June 18, 1927. Constructed and operated by The Milwaukee Road ( Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad ), the luxury hotel was reached by electrified railroad branch line that connected to the Milwaukee's main line at Three Forks, Montana .
