The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme [1] for human settlements and sustainable urban development.It was established in 1977 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976.
The UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award was created by the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS) in 1989 to encourage and recognize the countries, governments, organizations, and individuals who have made great contributions to the development of housing. [1]

Habitat III invited all Member States [6] and relevant stakeholders, [7] including parliamentarians, civil society organizations, regional and local government and municipality representatives, professionals and researchers, academia, foundations, women and youth groups, trade unions, and the private sector, as well as organizations of the United Nations system and intergovernmental organizations.

[1] Since September 2004, when UN-HABITAT established a formal relationship with United Cities and Local Governments , [ 6 ] the latter names the organization's chairperson & holds 10 of its 20 seats.
