The Maternity Center Association (MCA) was founded in 1918 in New York City. [1] That year, Frances Perkins became the group's executive secretary. [2] The organization grew out of an effort by the Women's City Club of New York City, an organization of 2000 influential women, to reduce the extreme maternal and infant mortality rates in New York City and the United States at that time.
