Stratford is the self-proclaimed Peach Capital of the World. Stratford was originally the town of McGee, which was established in 1891. [5] At the time, it was part of Pickens County, Chickasaw Nation [6] in an unorganized geographic region of the United States known as Indian Territory [7] In 1906 the Oklahoma Central Railroad built the railroad two miles south of McGee. McGee Creek State Park is a state park in southern Oklahoma. The park is on the south side of McGee Creek Reservoir, which impounds the waters of McGee Creek. Created in 1985 the reservoir provides flood control. The park is approximately 2,600 acres (1,100 ha) and the reservoir is approximately 3,800 acres (1,500 ha).
