In solid solution strengthening, Mo atoms are substituted into the γ matrix of Inconel alloys. Because Mo atoms have a significantly larger radius than those of Ni (209 pm and 163 pm, respectively), the substitution creates strain fields in the crystal lattice, which hinder the motion of dislocations, ultimately strengthening the material.
For example, there is a near-equality close to the round number 1000 between powers of 2 and powers of 10: 2 10 = 1024 ≈ 1000 = 10 3 . {\displaystyle 2^{10}=1024\approx 1000=10^{3}.} Some mathematical coincidences are used in engineering when one expression is taken as an approximation of another.
The progression of thicknesses is clear in column 3 (U.S. standard for sheet and plate iron and steel 64ths inch (delta)). The thicknesses vary first by 1 ⁄ 32 inch in higher thicknesses and then step down to increments of 1 ⁄ 64 inch, then 1 ⁄ 128 inch, with the final increments at decimal fractions of 1 ⁄ 64 inch.
For example, crystallization of C 60 from benzene solution yields triclinic crystals with the formula C 60 ·4C 6 H 6. Like other solvates, this one readily releases benzene to give the usual face-centred cubic C 60. Millimeter-sized crystals of C 60 and C 70 can be grown from solution both for solvates and for pure fullerenes. [37] [38]
Programs written in the high-level programming languages used to create software share a few main characteristics: knowledge of machine code is not necessary to write them, they can be ported to other computer systems, and they are more concise and human-readable than machine code. [56]
For example, to view the eccentricity of the planet Mercury (e = 0.2056), one must simply calculate the inverse sine to find the projection angle of 11.86 degrees. Then, tilting any circular object by that angle, the apparent ellipse of that object projected to the viewer's eye will be of the same eccentricity.
For example, comparisons in the B (blue) or V (visible) range lead to the so-called B-V color index, which increases the redder the star, [39] with the Sun having an index of +0.648 ± 0.006. [40] Combining the U (ultraviolet) and the B indices leads to the U-B index, which becomes more negative the hotter the star and the more the UV radiation.
A small fraction of the signal in the microwave cavity is coupled into a coaxial cable and then sent to a coherent radio receiver. The microwave signal coming out of the maser is very weak, a few picowatts. The frequency of the signal is fixed and extremely stable. The coherent receiver is used to amplify the signal and change the frequency.
