There are a total of 30 universities in Gujarat as of 4 February 2012.
Gujarat University was formed under the Gujarat University Act of the Government of Gujarat in 1949 as a teaching and affiliating university. It was established under the recommendation of a committee headed by Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar for rearrangement of university education in Bombay State . [ 6 ]

For UG courses, SAT scores are considered. For Engineering, students can apply through the ACPC process of Gujarat Government or through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main Score. [6] For joining the university through the former process, the student should be a domicile of Gujarat.
