The Virginia Slims of Fort Lauderdale is a defunct WTA Tour affiliated women's tennis tournament founded in 1946 as a combined men's and women's event called the Austin Smith Championships that was part of the ILTF Circuit. [1] The tournament played at the Fort Lauderdale Tennis Club [2] from 1946 to 1974.
James Andrew "Jimmy" Evert (July 31, 1923 – August 21, 2015) [1] was an American tennis coach and player. He was the father of Chris Evert, who was one of the world's top women tennis players in the 1970s and 1980s. [2] Evert was born in Chicago, Illinois. As a youngster, he was a two-time U.S. age-group champion.
