Greenbrier Academy for Girls (GBA) is a therapeutic, college preparatory boarding school in Pence Springs, West Virginia for grades 8-12. Surrounded by a 140-acre (57 ha) campus, the Academy’s main building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. GBA is located in rural southeastern West Virginia.
The Linsly School, formerly known as the Linsly Military Institute, is a boarding and day school located in Wheeling, West Virginia. [5] It was founded in 1814 by Noah Linsly and chartered by the State of Virginia in the same year. [6] The school is the oldest preparatory school west of the Alleghenies. [7]
Revolution Prep, based in Santa Monica, California, began in 2002 after founders Ramit Varma and Jake Neuberg met at UCLA's Anderson School of Business.After years of teaching for Kaplan and The Princeton Review, Neuberg and Varma started a company with the goal of improving traditional educational tools and creating new and innovative solutions to academic problems.
Students at these academies are organized as cadets, and graduate with appropriate licenses from the U.S. Coast Guard and/or the U.S. Merchant Marine.While not immediately offered a commission as an officer within a service, cadets do have the opportunity to participate in commissioning programs like the Strategic Sealift Officer Program (Navy) and Maritime Academy Graduate (Coast Guard).
The service area of the school was expanded by 1995 legislation that divided West Virginia into eleven districts. Southern serves all of Boone, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming counties. As of 2023, approximately 1,100 students are enrolled at the college and thirty-seven percent are part-time students. [5]
