Social Distortion is the third studio album and major label debut by the American punk rock band of the same name, released on March 27, 1990, through Epic Records.The album furthered the country-infused experimentation of Prison Bound with songs like "Drug Train" and the radio hit "Ball and Chain".

Dennis Danell died on February 29, 2000, in his Newport Beach home after apparently suffering a brain aneurysm , leaving Ness as the only remaining original member of the band.
The song was written about Social Distortion's first North American tour, in which they travelled with Youth Brigade in 1982. The song covers the hardships of touring, including daily travel from city to city, confrontation with the public, the uncertainty of the each day, as well as front man Mike Ness' longing for his girlfriend who remained at home.
