A DIY calcium test has been on my TODO list for a long time. I have 2 Salifert tests, one measures 350ppm and the other 450ppm! I have Disodium-EDTA and NaoH, but never found a place to buy Hydroxynaphthol blue at a reasonable cost. I may run my own titration later with indicator from my...

1 - Titrate down to pH = 4. 2 - Fit data from the pH 5 to pH 4 portion of the titration to third degree polynomial. 3 - Calculate root of second derivative of the polynomial (the inflection point) 4 - Use that as the end point. 5 - Also use the polynomial to estimate titrant volume at end point.

Jim, I ended up using Hydroxynaphthol Blue for the Ca test as you suggested and Calmagite for Ca+Mg. Both tests are working great. The Ca seems to be +/- 1 ppm and Mg +/- 10 ppm. Thanks for all of your help.

The sump consists of a Filter roller that goes into the first compartment filled with bio balls + 2 skimmers: - Blue marine 2000 skimmer which does most of the work. - Nyos quantum skimmer that's connected to ozon which adds ozone to the water column at night. I "modded" both skimmers so that they have a drain on the bottom and drain to a 20l ...

It doesn't have much for corals now so I haven't started dosing. I'll be dosing BRS two part and Tropic Marin part C (for trace), so three dosing heads used. Should be a pretty economical option. Here's the recipe thread for DIY all for reef to give you an idea of the cost difference.

The powder blue is te meanest of the bunch...and from my experiences doesn't like other blue fish, especially tangs. My hippo doesn't pick fights with the powder blue, but the powder blue goes after the hippo quite often. I feed mine very heavy as well, two frozen cubes twice a day, some pellets with the cubes, and a nori sheet every other day.

Pro and Blue all can run the same spectrums, but at what PAR is the difference. Regardless of blending spectrums in your scheduled, if you know you’re going to run high PAR for your peak schedule in AB+ get the blues. If you’re going to run high PAR in your peak schedule with whiter spectrum, get the Pro.

Aquarium Requirements: Regal angelfish reach adult lengths of ~8-9 inches. They require plenty of swimming room and more importantly, many natural hiding spots. For this reason, tanks of four feet in length with plenty of live rock with caves are a minimum, with a six foot tank being more suitable.

It offers a wide dimming range of 10,000%, ranging from 1-100% for daylight simulation to 1-0.01% for moon cycle simulation. 5. Reflector Design: The OR4 models now feature reflectors, which improve PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) coverage and ensure better light distribution throughout the aquarium.

If he/she is doing water changes - even that SHOULD not be a problem. But the best would be to use RO/DI, distilled water for new top offs (clearly). Tap with prime should be fine for a fowlr with dimmer lighting. It is also used in some reefs successfully just fine...just depends on the source at that point.
