I received a 45-year-old rod and reel combo from my wife's grandfather. The reel turned, but not well, and the drag was completely frozen. The rod was dirty, a couple of guides were loose and misaligned. John stripped the reel, cleaned and lubed it. He removed the guides, cleaned them, cleaned the rod, and rewound the guides.

rmatt, If you want to fish lockwood folly I would suggest putting in at the wildlife ramp at the end of Sunset Harbor Rd. You can get there from 211hwy, just take a right and I think there is a stoplight on 211 and the road. Tell me about this rod. I just traded a guy an old PSE Silverhawk bow that I put on craigslist for $40 (i really didn't care if it just walked off, just wanted it gone), for a Shakespeare Fiber Glass Fly Rod. On it it says FY 12-R 8'0" and says#7/8 line. The Reel is a Shakespeare alpha 2528G and there is some old line on it.
I got a US Reels Supercaster 230xl spinning reel for Xmas. So I bought a new St Croix 7 foot rod, and put it on. I put 20lb suffix braid on the reel. Im getting bird nests like crazy, on the line, not the reel Today, on the first cast, there it is, a near fist sized bird nest on my line 20 yards out after my cast.
Matter of fact fishing has been on since 12 yesterday afternoon until now. I think I was up until 2 this morning watching them. Some of the showes I really like are: Bill Dance, Hank Parker, North to Alaska, One more cast, and the Saltwater experience. Just to name a few. I will watch anything but shark fishing.
