Văn Miếu (Vietnamese: Văn Miếu, chữ Hán: 文廟 [1] [2]), literally translated as Temple of Literature (although a more accurate name should be Temple of Confucius, as Văn refers to Confucius), is a temple dedicated to Confucius in Hanoi, northern Vietnam.
After the establishment of the Nguyễn dynasty, the emperor Gia Long decided to transfer the capital from Hanoi to Huế, thus a new Temple of Literature was built in Huế where new stelae were placed. The total number of stelae in Huế is 32 with the last one dated in 1919.
The Temple of Literature in Hanoi was erected in C.E.1070 by the Ly sovereigns on this model, & a National Academy was added to the Temple in C.E.1076, & it was transformed into a National College which remained in Hanoi until C.E.1807 when it was transferred to Hue, & partly destroyed by the War, the Temple was rebuilt in C.E.1954.

There are also some outstanding works of Vietnamese-French architecture such as Khải Định Tomb, Palace of An Định, Cửa Bắc Church, and the Vietnam National Museum of History.
The temple was built in early 19th century, originally dedicated to "Three Sages" Wenchang Dijun, Guan Yu and Lü Dongbin. At some point, the national hero, Trần Hưng Đạo, was incorporated into the temple. [1] From the shore, Thê Húc Bridge (Cầu Thê Húc) leads to the islet.
