For those that don't recognize it, the 3.14159 is PI. So, you get 12.56636 *3.62 * 8 = 363.9217 cubic inches. To convert cubic inches into Liters, you multiply 363.9217 by 16.387 (that's the conversion factor for CI to CC) and you get about 5961 CC, and a 1000 CC is a Liter, so it's 5.961 Liter, which I guess is close enough to 6.0 Liter.

Pontiac adopted the name Trans-Am from the SCCA. (Sports Car Club of America). The title Trans-Am was used to title their premier production sedan racing series. The Pontiac Trans-Am didn't fit into the guidelines of the SCCA because they limited the size of their engines to 300 cid or 5 liters. Pontiac's T/A was a 400 cid.

History of the GTO . The origin of the GTO, the vehicle that became an icon for the muscle car set, is really a story of one man's battle against the corporate establishment. That man, John Z. 69 GTO AXLE CASTING. I have a 69 GTO and am trying to determine if my rear axle is the proper coding for what the original axle could have been. The casting number on the case is 9799202 and just above that I believe is 149. I do not believe there is a letter preceding the 149, but am not certain. I hope the 149 means the 14th day of January ...

The stand I'm using is a big heavy duty one (see below) and didn't have any issues with my SBC; however, these Pontiac engines are beasts. The two cast iron heads seem like they weigh more than my SBC fully assembled (not really, but they do weigh a ton ) My engine has been on the stand for nearly 6 months and just now going to be re-assembling.
