I have found the process to be very simple - especially the unfreezing/refreezing. Each major credit agency has a calendar where you specify the date to unfreeze and the date to refreeze. The credit is unfrozen on the date you enter (can be same day you are entering the unfreeze) and refrozen at midnight on the date you refreeze.
To summarize Equifax's system has been pretty much down since mid-July 2020 and you will know when it's down because you will see “We are temporarily unable to complete this request” screen after logging in. Why they haven't fixed this is beyond me. 2. Award. Hi PF, I’m looking to begin the refinance process soon so I unfroze my credit ...
According to the Federal Trade Commission, the three major credit bureaus are required to lift a freeze within one hour if the request is made online or by phone. If you mail your request, they are required to lift the freeze within three business days of being notified. I would call the FTC. 5. Award.
Have you tried their 'Lock & Alert" app? It's easy to use (there's an app for your phone). Transunion has similar (freeze/unfreeze via app or online). Experian's app doesn't allow you to lock/unlock and you have to go to their website to do it (or call) and it's a bit more convoluted.
If this happened with TransUnion and/or Equifax, try following the aforementioned strategy of using non-FCRA opt outs with the three main bureaus after ensuring that you either have control over or have shut down any online accounts with the TransUnion freeze/unfreeze/dispute service and MyEquifax.
I would only unfreeze when you need to use your credit Credit Report/Score to acquire a new line of credit. Edited to clarify when you need to unfreeze credit. Minor clarification, the unfreeze is only needed if you are applying for credit, such as getting a new credit card, a new car loan, or mortgage. etc.
Equifax unfreeze infinite loop. Hey first post here... After the 2017 Equifax breach I froze my credit file. I used LastPass to store my "myequifax" login information and the PIN that I received for when I want to unfreeze my file. I'm buying a house so it's time to unfreeze. Tried logging in to "myequifax" with my stored credentials.
Since at least mid-July, none of the automated Equifax systems work to freeze or unfreeze your credit. Maybe someday Equifax will fix them. The only way to freeze/unfreeze is to call in, let the automated phone system fail, then it will connect you with a human who can actually do it. Ironically, requiring people to talk to a human costs ...
When I try, I just get the following message: We're sorry. We can't process your Equifax security freeze request online, because we need additional address or identification information. To help us process your request, please click here to see instructions and a link to required information. From there it just takes me to a page that says I ...
Cannot unfreeze Equifax credit. I have been able to unfreeze my credit with Transunion and Experian but not Equifax. They require me to mail a ton of documents including a utility bill but I am not on any utility bill as they are in my parents names. My parents will not put any utility bills under my name.
