Although Deinosuchus was far larger than any modern crocodile or alligator, with the largest adults measuring 10.6 meters (35 ft) in total length, its overall appearance was fairly similar to its smaller relatives. It had large, robust teeth built for crushing, and its back was covered with thick hemispherical osteoderms.

The only order-level taxon that is currently considered valid is Crocodilia in its present definition. Prehistoric crocodiles are represented by many taxa, but since few major groups of the ancient forms are distinguishable, a conclusion on how to define new order-level clades is not yet possible. (Benson & Clark, 1988).
Terminonaris was a predator that could reach a length of about 6 m (19.7 ft). [1] The skull of the largest individual is 98.3 cm (38.7 in) long. [1] The elongated snout and the long, relatively thin teeth suggest that Terminonaris was a hunter of fish, small mammals and possibly small dinosaurs.
Saltwater crocodiles have been implicated in over 1,300 attacks on humans between 2010 and 2020, almost half of which fatal. [151] Animals of various sizes may attack humans but large males are generally responsible for fatalities. Large animals require large prey, and humans are the correct size.
The American crocodile is also one of the largest crocodile species, with large males in the southern part of their range reported to approach 6.1 m (20 ft) in size. Based on projections from various skulls, the largest males may have reached 6–7 m (20–23 ft) in length, and their predicted mass reached up to 1,283 kg (2,829 lb). [ 120 ]
