Sep. 13—EVANSTON, Ill. — Officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation Wednesday announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
They are evaluated on their academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, and an analysis of their essay. 500 students are chosen as semifinalists. In March, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars makes the final selection of up to 121 Presidential Scholars. [4]
