An EMF meter is a scientific instrument for measuring electromagnetic fields (abbreviated as EMF). Most meters measure the electromagnetic radiation flux density (DC fields) or the change in an electromagnetic field over time (AC fields), essentially the same as a radio antenna, but with quite different detection characteristics.
A MEMS magnetic field sensor is a small-scale microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) device for detecting and measuring magnetic fields (magnetometer). Many of these operate by detecting effects of the Lorentz force : a change in voltage or resonant frequency may be measured electronically, or a mechanical displacement may be measured optically.

Magnetic fields are vector quantities characterized by both strength and direction. The strength of a magnetic field is measured in units of tesla in the SI units, and in gauss in the cgs system of units. 10,000 gauss are equal to one tesla. [1] Measurements of the Earth's magnetic field are often quoted in units of nanotesla (nT), also called ...
Since sea water is an electrical conductor, an EMF is induced when it moves relative to the magnetic field, according to Faraday's law. This EMF creates a local voltage differential, which can be measured by two electrodes in contact with the water. The speed of the water flowing past the sensor is directly proportional to this measured voltage.
Hall effect magnetometers (also called tesla meters or gauss meters) use a Hall probe [23] with a Hall element to measure magnetic fields or inspect materials (such as tubing or pipelines) using the principles of magnetic flux leakage. A Hall probe is a device that uses a calibrated Hall effect sensor to directly measure the strength of a ...
