In 2024, the state pension increased by 8.5 per cent, in line with the previous September’s inflation figure. This April, it will go up by 4.1 per cent, matching wage growth in 2024.
The benefits paid under basic State Pension are increased in April each year to pensioners living in the UK and in certain overseas countries which have a social security agreement with the UK that includes British pension uprating, [8] in line with the CPI. All state pensions for these pensions are protected by the "triple lock" guarantee.
The Act amended the timetable for increasing the state pension age to 66. Under the Pensions Act 2007, the increase to 66 was due to take effect between 2024 and 2026.
