Tara Maclay is a fictional character created for the action-horror/fantasy television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003). She was developed by Joss Whedon and portrayed by Amber Benson . Tara is a shy young woman with magical talents who falls in love with Willow Rosenberg , one of the core characters.
Buffy and Xander topple to the ground as a bullet fires at the window to Willow's bedroom and strikes Tara in the back as she is facing Willow. As Tara collapses and dies, Willow cries out holding her as her eyes turn magically dark red, while outside, Xander tries to staunch the bleeding of Buffy's chest wound.
He first appears to be a fairly normal nerd, but becomes a violent, power-driven timebomb who tries to gain respect by instilling fear in others. He commits evil deeds such as killing his girlfriend Katrina after his unsuccessful rape attempt. He also shoots Buffy and (accidentally) kills Tara in Buffy's own backyard.
Buffy is distraught, because she felt this was the only way to explain her recent behavior, and admits that she and Spike are having sex. Though surprised, Tara is supportive and says that it is okay if Buffy loves Spike, since Spike loves her. Buffy says that her not loving Spike, but only "using" him, disgusts her as much as actually loving him.
Glory quickly establishes herself as one of Buffy's most dangerous and determined enemies. At one point, she confronts Buffy in her own home, openly threatening to kill Buffy's friends and family and force Buffy to watch her do so. Glory is a god in a human body; the human mind can not control such power, which gradually turns Glory insane.
Protecting Dawn, Tara refuses, and Glory drains Tara's mind of sanity. At the hospital, doctors look after Tara while Willow plans her vengeance against Glory.
