Central Secretariat Service (Hindi: केंद्रीय सचिवालय सेवा; abbreviated as CSS) is the administrative civil service under Group A [3] and Group B [4] of the Central Civil Services of the executive branch of the Government of India.

The Central Secretariat Training School was established by Ministry of Home Affairs in 1948 with the primary objective to provide training to the officers of the Central Secretariat Service (CSS), Central Secretariat Stenographers Service (CSSS) and officers of other subsidiary services based at the Central Secretariat like Railway Board Secretariat Service.
Central Civil Services are organised civil services, under Government of India. The officers of these Civil Services manage various ministries and departments. Central Civil Services along with All India Services is part of the Civil Services of India.
The model followed in setting up the service was the Central Secretariat Service which had been re-organised under the Central Secretariat (Re-organisation and re-inforcement) Scheme, framed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with a view to strengthen the secretariat structure of other Ministries of Government of India.
