Effie Robinson was born in Healdsburg, California, January 7, 1920.A 1943 magna cum laude graduate of San Francisco State University, Robinson was the first African American graduate from the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare. [1]

Her undergraduate education was at UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare, earning a bachelor's of social work in 1953 and her Master of Social Work at the same school in 1955. Her doctorate was in 1966 from Brandeis University. [1] Before starting to teach at UCLA in 1969, she taught for three years at the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare.
The Institute of Child Welfare was one of the first interdisciplinary centers in the United States for research on child development. [ 12 ] In 1960 the nursery school moved to its current location from the original site on Bancroft Way and was named for Harold E. Jones, the Director of the Institute of Human Development from 1935-1960. [ 13 ]
Glenn completed his BA degree in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley in 1999. He pursued a Master of Business Administration in the Executive Education program at the Purdue University Krannert School of Management, and graduated in December 2012.
