From its creation, the district was also given borough status, entitling the council to be known as Milton Keynes Borough Council and allowing the chair of the council to take the title of mayor. Following local government re-organisation in 1974, [3] the new Milton Keynes Borough Council initially operated out of the offices of the five councils it had replaced, although it relocated to Sherwood House (later known as Challenge House) in Bletchley in late 1974.
