The War on I-4 is a college rivalry between the University of Central Florida Knights and University of South Florida Bulls. The rivalry is best known for its college football matchup which originated in a series of football games played from 2005 to 2008 and now takes place on Thanksgiving weekend, the de facto "rivalry weekend" for FBS football.
South Florida gained 543 total yards—over three times as many as UCF—while holding the ball three fewer minutes than the Knights. UCF scored their only offensive points—a Kyle Israel rush for a touchdown, and a field goal—in the first half. UCF and South Florida would also exchange safeties.
In 2015, South Florida defeated the UCF Knights 44–3 to finish a winless 0-12 season for the second time in UCF history. In 2016, the War On I-4 trophy was introduced for the first time. USF took home the trophy by defeating UCF 48–31 and clinching their first 10-win season in school history, only for UCF to take the trophy back from them ...
The UCF Knights college football team competes as part of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), representing the University of Central Florida in the Big 12 Conference. Since the program's first season in 1979 under Don Jonas , the Knights have played more than 517 games, with over 290 victories.
The UCF Knights expanded the Big 12 this year and will see it grow again in 2024. All four new teams — Arizona, Arizona State, BYU and Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes — are on UCF's schedule.
The decade began auspiciously with the first meeting of top-10 squads in the history of the rivalry (UF No. 6, FSU No. 8) heading into FSU's 45–30 win in Tallahassee. [10] The stakes were even higher in 1991 in Gainesville, as both teams were ranked in the AP Poll top five (FSU No. 3, UF No. 5).
UCF began competing in intercollegiate football in 1979. [1] Unlike many college football teams that began play much earlier, all of UCF's full box scores are available, meaning there is no pre-modern era of incomplete statistics. These lists are updated through UCF's game against Boise State on September 2, 2021.
