Chisago City (/ ʃ ɪ ˈ s ɑː ɡ oʊ / shi-SAH-goh) [5] is a city in Chisago County, Minnesota, United States, approximately 35 miles northeast of downtown Minneapolis–Saint Paul. The population was 4,967 at the 2010 census .
Chisago County's National Register properties reflect its role as an early focus of Euro-American settlement in Minnesota and its evolving land use. An intensive logging industry beginning in the 1830s gave way to agriculture, spurred by railroad access and increased European immigration—particularly Swedish immigration—by the 1870s.

Green Lake has an area of 1,809 acres (732 ha). It is the largest lake in the Chisago City area and it is 32 feet (9.8 m) deep at its deepest point. [3] The average water clarity is about 9.6 feet (2.9 m). It is connected by a channel to Little Green Lake. The main public boat access is located off of County Road 23 in Chisago City.
Center City was founded in 1851 and was the first permanent Swedish settlement in Minnesota. It became the county seat in 1875. [8] The Chisago Lakes Lutheran Church was the first Swedish settled church in the area, being organized in 1854 in the barn of Per Berg. [9]
