Omega TV is a free to air terrestrial TV channel. It is the first private television channel established in Cyprus. Since the launch of the channel in 1992, it has been ‘dedicated to broadcasting high quality Cypriot and Greek programming.’ This includes kids programs as well as Church orientated programs.
The company has been providing access to free live-streaming TV channels over the internet since 2007 through its Global Interactive Program Guide internet TV software, allowing registered users to watch TV online. In 2011, the company began selling subscription services for live television from Morocco and Greece.
The 2020s show the reopening of the Mega Channel. After Vaggelis Marinakis' purchase of the channel's archive, he managed to relaunch Mega, under the same name and with a similar format (a combination of news programs, movies and Mega's old Greek TV shows). The network resumed broadcasting on 17 February 2020. [11]
The series premiered on 11 October 2010 to record ratings and critical acclaim, and is scheduled for twenty-six episodes. It is one of the most expensive Greek television productions ever with a budget of €4 million. After airing on television, each episode is also available for streaming via Mega Channel's website. [1]
Star Channel was launched on 4 December 1993 to compete with Mega, ANT1, Alpha TV and ERT Channels. It began broadcasting children's programs as well as foreign series. In 1994 – Star Channel began to exchange family/children's programs from Alpha, then known as Skai (Greek spelling of Sky) with Star's children's programming.
