The JGTC (Japanese Grand Touring Championship) [1] was established in 1993 [2] [3] by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) via its subsidiary company the GTA (GT Association), replacing the defunct All Japan Sports Prototype Championship for Group C cars and the Japanese Touring Car Championship for Group A touring cars, which instead would adopt the supertouring formula.
The Nissan Skyline GT-R (Japanese: 日産・スカイラインGT-R, Hepburn: Nissan Sukairain GT-R) is a Japanese sports car based on the Nissan Skyline range. The first cars named "Skyline GT-R" were produced between 1969 and 1972 under the model code KPGC10, and were successful in Japanese touring car racing events.
The first Skyline was introduced on 24 April 1957, at the Takarazuka Theater, in Hibiya, Tokyo, [3] for Fuji Precision Industries, marketed as a luxury car.It featured a 1.5 L (1,482 cc) GA-30 engine (also known as FG4A-30) producing 44 kW (60 hp) at 4,400 rpm, which was previously used in the prototype Subaru 1500, Subaru's first car. The company focused most of its efforts on mechanical and aesthetic modifications to four cars- the Nissan Skyline, Nissan March, Subaru Impreza and Subaru Legacy. Other models modified have included the Nissan 300ZX , Nissan Silvia , Nissan GTR R35 , Toyota Vitz , Nissan 350Z and several kei cars from various manufacturers.

It succeeds the Nissan Skyline GT-R, a high-performance variant of the Nissan Skyline. Although this model was the sixth-generation to bear the GT-R name, it is no longer part of the Skyline line-up. The car is built on the PM platform, derived from the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z models.

JR Motorsports were 2nd in the teams' championship, while Sumo Power GT were 5th. The car finished the season with 5 race wins, 3 pole positions, and 18 podium finishes. It was the last competitive outing for the car, as in 2012 GT1 cars got replaced by GT3 cars and Nissan did not return to defend their title with a GT3 variant of the GT-R. [44]
